Moving Checklist

Before you begin moving, and become consumed with all that needs to be done, create a checklist that will make your move a breeze and as quick as possible. Although there are moving checklists that can be found, it is better if you make your own moving checklist to fit your lifestyle and needs. A well constructed moving checklist will be the best way to ensure your move is quick, and it will also help you know that you did not miss a thing.

What you need to get.

The first part of your checklist needs to include all the supplies you will need in order to have a successful move. This portion of your checklist should include all of the following: packing tape, boxes, plastic tubs, makers, and bubble wrap. Make sure you have plenty of bubble wrap to ensure nothing fragile is broken during the move. Check with the moving company you are using to see if they offer boxes and other supplies at discounted rates.

What you need to do.

This portion of your checklist will include things that must be done before the move. Certain calls need to be made and plans need to be in place to make the move successful. The checklist will include the following: call the moving company and set the dates, call friends and family who are helping pack and let them know what dates and time you could use their help, decide what sort of payment you are using for the people who help, and check the weather. Booking your dates with the moving company will ensure that enough trucks and manpower is available on the day you want to move. Be courteous and let all the people who have offered to help know ahead of time when you need then to be available. You probably are not planning on paying these people money for their help, but other forms of payment are needed. Plan what they will eat, and what drinks need to be bought the days they are helping. Be sure to keep an eye out for changes in the weather. Although it can be rainy during the days you pack inside belongings, it may be difficult to pack outside items in the garage. Being aware of the weather will make sure that there are no surprises in your plans during your move.

What you need now and later.

This part of the checklist will prevent any items that you need on a daily basis from being packed away and unusable. Go through every room in your home and write down every item you need now. Then, the day of packing, use the checklist to know what exactly needs to be packed. You can use plastic tubs to keep all these items in. The checklist might read something like this for the bathroom: toilet paper, a few towels, self cleaning items, toothbrush and toothpaste, and certain medicines used daily. The rest of the items can be boxed and labeled. This provides for the most successful move, in the fastest and most convenient way.
